about us
Welcome to Schooled.
Formerly known as CES, we’ve rebranded and broadened our horizons to offer even more support, tailored to your needs. Supporting the education sector, from ECE through to secondary schools, remains a core part of our DNA and our mission remains the same: to take the hassle out of essential tasks so you can focus on what truly matters. With our expanded services, we’ve got you covered in financial services, board and governance support, training and events, and elections.
Our History
Our history goes back over 35 years.
All the way back to 1989 (the same year Dead Poets Society, Back to the Future Part II and the original Batman movie came out!). When the Tomorrows Schools reforms were introduced on the 1st October 1989 a lot of the administration and governance of state schools in New Zealand was decentralised from the Education Board to individual school Boards of Trustees. A number of Canterbury schools decided to set up a non-profit cooperative organisation to provide accounting services for them and other local schools, and Canterbury Education Services Society Limited (CES) was born.
CES evolved over time adding additional services and new staff. In 2006 our first Auckland office opened, and then in 2022, we purchased Leading Edge Services, which became our Auckland West office.
With the introduction of the Education & Training Act 2020 online voting was allowed for state and state-integrated school boards, from the 2022 triennial election and CES was the only company accredited by the Ministry of Education to provide online elections.
In 2024, after a lot of work done behind the scenes by the CES Board and the then General Manager, Wayne Jamieson, the shareholding schools voted to restructure CES so that it was better suited to support the wider education sector. This restructure led to the establishment of the CES Foundation and the Schooled.
CES Foundation
We’re also excited to introduce the CES Foundation.
The CES Foundation is the owner of Schooled and continues the long heritage of Canterbury Education Services. The CES Foundation is a registered charity set up to continue the work that CES started but with a national focus. The CES Foundation has a broad charitable purpose to support ECE, primary, intermediate, and secondary schools across Aotearoa. Any surpluses from Schooled are paid to the CES Foundation and can then be used to provide grants and support to individuals and groups that align with our charitable purpose.
Keep an eye out for more information about grant and funding opportunities from the CES Foundation.
