Our Board

The board of Schooled includes a diverse mix of skills and experience that supports the strategic direction of Schooled. Many of our current directors have experience with school governance, having sat on various school boards. They also bring a wide variety of professional experience to Schooled that supports our wider goals and ensure that we operate as a successful business, a good employer, and are socially responsible.

Geordie Hooft

Board Chair

Geordie runs his own tax consultancy and has a strong background in tax accounting, including over 17 years with Grant Thornton and over 10 years of that as Partner and over three years as Tax Partner for KPMG Christchurch. Geordie has also been involved with a number of board appointments and is currently the Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

He has considerable experience advising businesses, charities and individuals about taxation matters, including initial structuring, restructuring, doing business offshore, property transactions, indirect taxes and compliance issues. His clients include a wide range of owner-managed businesses, public listed companies, and charities.

He enjoy the opportunity to provide constructive and pro-active advice to clients and is able to communicate complex issues to clients in a way that they can understand, to ensure significant savings and clarity of obligations. Geordie is a regular media commentator, addressing some of the taxation issues many privately held businesses owners face.

Geordie is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Susan McAuley

Board Member and CES Foundation Board Chair

Susan McAuley is a self-employed business strategist with a strong background in education. She has experience in the public, private and online tertiary education sectors as well as having been the Chair of the Finance Committee for one of the largest secondary schools in New Zealand. Experienced in the fields of retail, information systems, business management, manufacturing, chartered accountancy and marketing, Susan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Board.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, with experience in both public practice and corporate (management accounting) although in recent years has been focussed more on marketing and business strategy.

Doug Dixon

Board Member

Doug has over 10 years experience in the IT Industry, specifically around deployment and support of larger accounting systems (ERP). Prior to that he accumulated almost 30 years of commercial experience as a business owner and manager focused on finance and leadership roles.

Doug has also held governance positions at Chisnallwood Intermediate School, Tennis Canterbury and the Wilding Park Foundation.

Bruce Kearney

Board Member

Bruce has a long and dedicated career in education and supporting young people to succeed. Bruce is currently the Principal of Rangiora High School and has held that position since 2022. Previously he was the Principal of Kaiapoi High School for eleven years.

Originally starting as a Commerce teacher at St Paul’s Collegiate in Hamilton, he has taught at Shirley Boys High, Christchurch Boys High, and Cashmere High School.

Penny Devine

Board Member

Penny has a long interest in the NZ education sector, following her four children through the education system from 1989. She has been involved with Playcentre ending up as the National Property Manager before her involvement continued with primary and secondary schools in Wellington.

Penny has worked in project and property management for a number of government agencies including the Office of Treaty Settlements, Land Information NZ and CERA after the Canterbury earthquakes. She has also bee involved governance of various sporting bodies as well as being on the Hornby High School Board and a member of the NZSBA Canterbury Regional Executive.
